Advent IV

The Secret Is Out. In our not-too-distant past the word of this main character came only as that...

...such as that night when the word of God came to Nathan saying, “Go and tell my servant David: This is God’s word on the matter: ...God himself will build you a house!"

... and the word came through those only known as messengers like Gabriel. But the climax of this Act is that Word becoming flesh, implanted into our intimate world, (y)our actual life:

... for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed...

And the radical rescue for us may look like Egypt; walking in Memphis in the shadow of a pyramid it may look like equal rights amidst governmental oppression; it may look like, no, it does look like lifting a hand to the inconvenient sick and poor and homeless and nameless and foreign, but throughout it is always rescuing people to be fully human. And, here is the time-covered revealing: you are most fully human in communion with Creator! So sings the psalmist: Your love, God, is my song, and I’ll sing it!

And after his encounter with Christ, Paul writes: precisely as revealed in the mystery kept secret for so long but now an open book through the prophetic Scriptures. All the nations of the world can now know the truth and be brought into obedient belief, carrying out the orders of God, who got all this started, down to the very last letter.

Now the obvious question voiced best from the girl who was wholly shaken:

"How can this be”

And the Mystery Is Uncovered: The angel answered,

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, the power of the Highest hover over you; Therefore, the child you bring to birth will be called Holy, Son of God.

We are hindered. By what religious people call sin we are previously engaged, bound by/to this sin, that force embodied throughout the world which causes all disintegration of relationships (on every level, from friend-to-friend, mind-to-body, soul-to-God). But listen, the Announcement is this: Christ is come and his arrival is inextricable from the Promise as a baby is from her cry, only with this child the message is rescue from the oppression of sin and death, rescue that sets us free and on the path to fullness of joy- caught up in His state, which is Love, which is never content to be contained, but always singing out while experiencing!
