That Was Humiliating... (Love Letter 1)
... the most mortifying thing you’ve ever experienced, the shame of not being enough, the nakedness of who you are, exposed in the judgmental spotlight of our darkest hour... this is the skin God stepped into: he suffered for sins once for all.
Jesus didn’t just try on your embarrassing clothes, He was baptized, IMMERSED in our humanness, our brokenness, our “trapped” condition that leads to death. He walks directly into our struggle, the wilderness of this life.
Why? Love. Focused love, covenant love: "I’m putting my rainbow in the clouds, a sign of the covenant between me... and everything living." That promised bow has the arrow of judgement pointing straight up to the heights of God himself, we witness the impact in Jesus: "That’s what Christ did definitively: suffered because of others’ sins, the Righteous One for the unrighteous ones. He went through it all—was put to death and then made alive—to bring us to God."
Because of this, the ultimate judge sees not your shame, but the glory made alive in you through Jesus who not only rose up out of the flood waters in baptism, but brings you straight way out of the grave with him in new life: "From now on every road you travelWill take you to God.Follow the Covenant signs;Read the charted directions."
